In Memoriam:
We get information from several sources, Chloris Noelke-Olson has been
one of the more prolific. Chloris' latest missive said, "I've been
contacted and wish to let
the current ODHDC members - especially Rich Carroll, that Ken Recu
(possibly an original member) has died at age 94. He took part in every
HHHHH rally in the 60s and 70s,
but moved to Vermont, from where he often turned up in Chicago for the
HHHHh, which was the last place I saw him, though we kept in sporadic
contact. John FLoyd Collins
was a friend of both of us and a member, and he died in November of
2017. Other deceased members who may not have been noted are: Ray &
Jill Boldt, Brian Kinkaid,
Jim Torcaso, John Floyd Collins, Rudy McCabe, Dick McConnell, Jim
Golden, Dave Metheny. I’m not sure about Mark Meek but Hans Oest has
also died."
She continued, "I forgot a few more: Rudy McCabe (last seen at Brian
Kinkaid's memorial), Duck McConnell, Jim & Debbie Golden, Ajay and
Edna Budrys, Benny Harrison,
Bob Nicholai, Geri Stark, Paul Emmerling, Larry Warshaw. As far as I
know, Bo Clausson, Fred Egloff, Richard Stack, Frnk Opalka, Roy Payment
(TOTOH), and Dick Simonsen are still around."
Add to this, two-fourths of the first, and infamous OOPS Rally Team,
Gordon Steifel and Larry O'Connor have passed on. The OOPS Rallye Team
lives on as Michelle and Christy O'Connor, Katy Prendergast, and Suzy
Smith.
Rich Cwik was a driving force behind the scenes in the HHHHH rallye in
the past few years. Early trophies were quite unique, and we ran out of
them years ago. Rich saw this need, and had recast the metal 'monkey'
that has adorned the trophy in past years. He did more than recast them,
he took the castings, added a base, and finished the trophies and added
lettering. Rich and his friend, Cherrie Pacque, were winners in 2006,
along with Bob and Sue Herzog. Since 2006, when he recast the monkies,
the trophies have again been an integral part of ODHDC and HHHHH.
Other frequent ODHDC stalwarts that are no longer with us include Mike
Fernandez, and Bernie Rekus. Several older members have simply
disappeared. One has become very reclusive, one is in a Federal
Institution, and has several years yet to serve. Others were known to be
in poor health, and simply stopped communicating. And while wishing
they still could be around and with us, at least we can remember the
myriad of wonderful times we had on HHHHH
